BANBRIDGE ACADEMY ULSTER TRACK & FIELD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Banbridge Academy’s athletes had another successful day at the Ulster Track & Field Athletics Championships held on a sunny day at Antrim Stadium.
In all, the Academy had 10 qualifiers across 12 events at the Championships and 3 returned home with medals. Bethany Nixon claimed Sliver in the Inter Girls’ 1500m Steeplechase after a strong run, Suzy Neill won Bronze in the Inter Girls’ 300m with a superb sprint and Callum Clement also won Bronze after some excellent jumping in the Mini Boys’ High Jump. All three athletes performed wonderfully well to medal in such a competitive event.

The other athletes also put up a strong show. Elizabeth Little finished 4th In the Inter Girls’ 100m and 7th in the Long Jump setting new school records in both. Marcus McNeill also set a school record in the Junior Boys’ 800m running to a 5th place finish. Also in the 800m Matthew Stevenson and Nadia Radcliffe both fished 6th in their respective Mini Boys’ and Junior Girls’ races.
In the Shot, Put Ben Bradshaw and Julia Herron also put in a good performance to place well in the Junior Boys’ and Minor Girls’ events and Anna Thompson competed well in the Mini Girls’ High Jump.

All the athletes gave a good account of themselves in the showpiece event in the Schools’ Athletics calendar and Bethany Nixon will now go on to compete in the Irish Schools’ Championships in Tullamore in early June.
