Academy Inter Girls’ Cross Country Team – Irish Silver Medallists

Banbridge Academy’s Intermediate Girls’ Cross Country team continued to create history when they won Silver at the Irish Schools’ Cross Country Championships held in Clongowes Wood College in Co Kildare. The girls became the first team from the Academy to ever medal at these prestigious championships and to claim Silver was a fantastic effort on the part of all four runners.

The team was led out by Bethany Nixon who ran a brave race to finish in 14th place. She was backed up with a fine run by Nadia Radcliffe, a year young for this age group, who finished 35th, Ruby McNiff who gets better with each run in 47th and Lucy Bradshaw who fought for every inch to finish 54th.

The girls were in a one hundred strong field of the very best cross-country athletes in Ireland and this performance backed up their fantastic achievement a fortnight ago when they were crowned Ulster Champions.

They will now look forward to the track season, but 2019 will live long in their memories as the year they made distance-running history for Banbridge Academy and they should be extremely proud of their hard work, dedication and sheer grit in becoming Irish Silver Medallists. Well done girls!
