Academy Runners shine at Ulster Cross Country Championships

Four Banbridge Academy runners had an excellent day at the Ulster Schools’ Cross Country championships at Mallusk Playing fields on Wednesday 21 February.

The star performance was from Patrick McNiff who dominated the Senior Boys’ race to win by a huge margin.  McNiff has a good track record at these championships but this performance was impressive from the start as he powered his way to the Ulster title in considerable style.

Bethany Nixon also had a fine day in the Inter Girls’ and was involved in a really tough race where she finished up in a very good 5th place.  All the more impressive as she is a year young for this category and will feature again next year.

Simon Ferris, in his first Senior Ulster Championships, ran brilliantly to finish in 10th place in the Minor Boys’ race and Matthew Stevenson was not to be outdone also finishing in 10th in the same race. Impressive performances from two fine young runners.

Patrick, Bethany and Simon now progress to the Irish Championships in Co Waterford on Saturday 10 March and they are sure to do well there even in the company of the very best runners in all of Ireland.
