Banbridge Academy 1st vs Rainey (5 – 1)

3rd Round Schools Cup

The first half was a very tense and close game with both teams testing the keepers very well. The first short corner of the game was awarded to Banbridge Academy and Katie McKee successfully found the backboard from a straight strike. Unfortunately Rainey replied quickly with their own short corner and scored.  The academy girls kept their structure and kept passing which led to many more attacks however none where converted into goals.  At the start of the second half the local girls came out determined to not let this match slip away.  Lauren McGaw scored 2 goals from open play and then she got her hat trick with a goal from a rebound during a short corner.  The travelling side were down and out whenever Gemma Hassan found the netting by flicking the ball over the keeper from a narrow angle.  The Banbirdge Academy team showed such determination in this match especially since they narrowly lost out on bring home the Superleague trophy by being narrowly defeated by Royal School Armagh in the final last week.  They now just have to await the draw for the quarter finals!!
