Banbridge Academy 1st XI Girls’ Hockey team through to the final of the Ulster Schools’ Superleague The Academy 1st XI Girls’ Hockey team defeated a very strong Belfast Royal Academy side in the semi-final of the Ulster Schools’ Superleague at Stormont on Saturday. The girls have made an excellent start to the season winning the National Topflight Tournament in Glasgow over Halloween, however, they had to fight incredibly hard against a very determined BRA side. After taking the lead through a smart finish from Amy Somerville, they came back from 2-1 down with a superb equaliser from Molly Mathers to earn a 2-2 draw at full time. The game had to be decided on penalty run-ins during which Bann keeper, Rebecca Spence, showed her expertise to deny the Belfast side on 4 occasions and conversions from Bann’s Jodie Simmons, Ellen Reid and Alex Gardiner resulted in the Academy girls winning the match. They now play Rainey Endowed in the final at Stormont on Wednesday 27 November.
