Banbridge Academy Girls’ Hockey Glasgow 2017

Banbridge Academy’s Girls’ 1st XI hockey squad has been regular participants in the Topflight tournament and have enjoyed success by winning the first Cup competition in Cheltenham 2010/11 and the Shield in Belgium 2013/14.  Last Year the 1st XI won the Topflight tournament in Glasgow which set the scene for the success that followed as the Girls broke all records and won the Belfast Telegraph Ulster Schools’ Cup followed by success in the Kate Russell All-Ireland Schools’ Tournament!

This season has started very positively with the girls currently sitting top of their group in the Ulster Schools’ Superleague Cup and remain unbeaten.  The squad has seen relatively few changes from last year’s team and hopefully the girls, with some new faces, will once again have a tremendous season.

The girls travelled to Glasgow and in the first match defeated Craigholme School 1-0 (Nadia Benallal), defeated Kelso High School 6-0 (Nadia Benallal 3, Katie McKee 2, Molly Mathers 1).  In the final group game the defeated Bandon Grammar School 7-0 (Sophie Mount 2, Molly Mathers 1, Alex Gardiner 1, Katie McKee 2, Ellen Reid 1).  The girls progressed to the quarter final and defeated Hutcheson’s Grammar School 3-0 (Katie McKee 3).  In the semi-final they defeated the High School of Glasgow 2-0 (Katie McKee 1, Sophie McKee 1).  The final was an incredibly tense and high quality match against Dollar Academy and the girls were gutted to lose 2-1.  A tremendous defence of their title and everything bodes extremely well for the season ahead.
