Belfast Telegraph Schools’ Cup Final

Banbridge Academy vs Ballyclare High School

Belfast Telegraph Schools’ Cup Final

Wednesday 6 March 2019 – 2.00pm, Lisnagarvey HC

Banbridge Academy’s 1st XI Girls’ started their road to the Belfast Telegraph Schools’ Cup Final back in January when they entered the competition in round 3, due to their seeding from being finalists in the Ulster Schools’ Competition of the Superleague earlier in the season, in November 2018.

The team travelled to the Royal School Dungannon and returned with a 4-1 victory.  The girls progressed to the QF against Wallace High School at home where the Team found their best form of the season to win 6-0.  However, the semi-final against Strathearn proved to be a bigger challenge and the girls had to rely on grit and determination to hang on to the only goal of the match from Nadia Benallal, Captain, to book their place in the final.

This is the fourth final for Banbridge Academy’s 1st XI Girls’ Hockey Team in the past five years, with the match on 6 March making it three finals in a row!  The joy of winning in 2016 compared to the heart ache of last season’s defeat by Rainey Endowed following a penalty shootout, has certainly focused the girls during their preparation for this match.  Their aim is to ensure that they get to experience the delight of victory once again.
