Irish Schools’ Regatta – Limerick

Kathryn McGrath (Year 11) and Charlotte Stevenson (Year 10) achieved 2 Gold medals at the rowing championships over the weekend in their Junior 15 doubles event.  On the Saturday they represented Portadown Boat Club in the Limerick Regatta winning Gold.  This featured crews from all the boat clubs across Ireland.  The Limerick Regatta was followed on the Sunday by the Irish Schools’ Rowing Competition encompassing schools across Ireland, and featured over 250 rowers.  Representing Banbridge Academy, they again took Gold in the Junior 15 women’s double on the Sunday.

Peter McGrath also represented the Academy in the Men’s Junior 14 Scull.  This was his first Regatta and despite being pitted against boys two years his senior was only narrowly beaten, however, he will have 2 more years in this age group.  Charlotte Walker (Lower 6th) rowed on the Saturday for Portadown Boat Club and finished second in the Limerick Regatta.

Tremendous achievement for all of the girls and Peter.
