BANBRIDGE ACADEMY SUPERLEAGUE FINAL

On Wednesday 27 November, Banbridge Academy 1XI Girls’ Hockey team faced Rainey Endowed in the Final of the Superleague. The Match started with both sides focused and being tight in defence. Most of the play for the firsts two quarters was between the 25 lines, with both midfields searching for an outlet to their forward team mates. The game remained very even despite a couple of shots on goal from Banbridge Academy. However, Rainey scored from open play in the last quarter to spark the match into end to end play. The Academy girls were thrown a lifeline when a short corner was awarded, but the shot from Katie McDonald was just wide of the post. Unfortunately, even though the Academy girls fought hard, the equaliser never came for the local girls and Rainey won the match 1-0. The girls will now focus on the next big event, the Belfast Telegraph Schools’ Cup.
