Banbridge Academy pupils have once again demonstrated their exceptional talent and dedication by winning multiple awards at the 2024 Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon (ABC) Junior Sports Awards.  The prestigious event, held at the Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre on 27 September 2024, celebrated the remarkable achievements of young athletes from across the Borough.  The Academy had a staggering 13 nominees out of a total of 53 across all categories.

The Banbridge Academy U14 Girls’ Hockey Team once again clinched this coveted award in recognition of their outstanding performance throughout the season winning both the Ulster and Irish Titles.

Several individual athletes from Banbridge Academy were also honoured for their exceptional contributions to their respective sports.  Their dedication, hard work and sportsmanship have set a high standard for their peers and inspired the next generation of athletes.  Adam Green was awarded Junior Male of the Year following a fantastic sailing season.  Connor Magee lifted the award for Youth Male of the Year after an unforgettable season, selected for Ulster Schools’ and Irish U19 Rugby and Alana Burns-Atkins was awarded Youth Female of the year following a very successful season in the pool.

Banbridge Academy past pupil and Olympian Dr Philip Doyle was the special guest on the night and reminisced in his interview about the time he spent at the Academy and how the structure and discipline of sport in school gave him the foundation to go on and succeed. He encouraged all those present to continue to work hard and aim high in their future careers.

The awards ceremony was a glittering affair, attended by 170 guests, including proud parents, coaches, and local dignitaries. Lord Mayor Councillor Sarah Duffy praised the young athletes for their remarkable achievements and highlighted the importance of sports in fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

Banbridge Academy’s success at the ABC Junior Sports Awards is a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting a culture of excellence in sports.
