BA Medallion Boys lose out in Shield Final

Banbridge Academy Medallion XV came up short in their attempt to win a trophy for the 4th year in a row. The Academy side bowed out of the main Medallion Shield competition losing 24-8 to a very strong Omagh Academy team. They then entered the Trophy hoping to win it for the 3rd year in a row, having also won the Bowl previous to that. Excellent wins against Portadown College (26-5) and Bangor Academy (36-7) set up a repeat of last year’s final against Belfast HS. The final was once again played at Friends’ School, Lisburn and it was the Belfast side who came out on top 31-7, in a tighter game than the scoreline would suggest. The coaching team, led superbly by Jemma Farrell and assisted by Brian O’Shaughnessy and Charlie Farrell, were understandably disappointed but extremely proud of the players and the progress they have made this season. It is hoped that many of the players will now make the step up to senior rugby next season and compete for places in an already competitive squad.
