SPECIAL OLYMPIC ASSEMBLY IN THE ACADEMY

In recognition of former pupils of Banbridge Academy the school recently hosted an Olympic Assembly. The event was a huge success and a great opportunity for the current pupils to hear about former students who have gone on to participate at the highest level possible in their chosen sport. Mr McLoughlin was delighted to host former student Mr Mark Tumilty, Ireland Men’s Hockey Head Coach – who spoke to the pupils about resilience, commitment and perseverance. Mr Tumilty spoke fondly of his days as a student in the Academy and how it had helped him to progress in the world of hockey and ultimately develop the skills to become the national Men’s Hockey Coach.
Mr McLoughlin outlined to the students that six former students had represented their respective sports at the Olympics in Paris 2024 – apparently the most Olympians from any school in Ireland. In addition, he highlighted two former Olympians who participated at former Olympic Games in Rio and Tokyo. A tremendous accolade for the school and the wider community to have so many Olympians from such a small area of the world.
