Banbridge Academy Student Wins Prestigious Anthea Bell Prize
Roisin Cumming, a Year 13 student at Banbridge Academy, has been announced as a winner of the esteemed Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators 2025. The national competition, which saw over 22,000 students participate across the UK, celebrates excellence in literary translation and promotes language learning among young people.
Roisin’s winning entry stood out among nearly 5,000 submissions, impressing judges with her linguistic flair and creative interpretation. The Anthea Bell Prize, named in honour of the renowned literary translator, is run by the Queen’s College Translation Exchange at the University of Oxford and is open to students aged 11–18.
Banbridge Academy has expressed immense pride in Roisin’s achievement, highlighting it as a testament to the school’s strong modern languages program and her dedication to the craft of translation.
The award not only recognises Roisin’s talent but also encourages other students to explore the rich world of languages and literature.
