Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Report 2023

Banbridge Academy had seven qualifying athletes at the Ulster Schools’ Cross Country Championships on Wednesday 8 February which once again were held at Mallusk Playing fields.
The first race of the day saw Mollie Tumilty and Daisy Douglas compete in the Mini girls. Both girls excelled in a field of over 130 racers with Mollie finishing in 6th place while Daisy came in at a well-deserved 29th place. This would have been enough for Mollie to qualify for the Irish Championships, but unfortunately there is no race category for her age group.
In the Minor Girls’ race, Casey Cousins ran strongly to finish in 23rd place and in the Junior Girls’, Emma Stewart performed well to finish in 21st place.
In the Senior races, Holly Fisher finished 22nd in the girls race and Kian Moran was also 22nd in the boys race. Simon Ferris was unable to compete due to having a clash with the final of the Prior Hockey Shield on the same day.
A great effort from all our runners as everyone in the championships, over 100 athletes in most races, had qualified through from their District Championships. Well done to all our runners and we look forward to seeing them all run in the Track & Field Athletics season.
