Ulster Aviation Society

On Friday 23rd June the Banbridge Academy Year 8s visited the Ulster Aviation Society, accompanied by a group of Year 11 Sports Leaders. On arrival the Sports Leaders separated the Year 8s into eight groups, who were appointed a Sports Leader. Form classes 8A-C went in the morning while

8D-F went in the afternoon. Once placed into groups, each group was appointed a guide who showed them the various air crafts and gave a knowledgeable background of each plane. The Year 8s visited both hangers and showed an impressive level of knowledge throughout asking valuable and sensible questions.

The groups were given an interactive learning session in the radio room getting shown how Morse code is performed along with how sonar radars are used by air crafts to detect other air vehicles.

The groups thoroughly enjoyed their chance to sit inside some of the aircrafts, including the Puma HC1 helicopter complete with turret, and sit in the cockpit of the impressive Buccaneer jet. Then, the Year 8s tucked into their packed lunches after a busy day so far. They then wrote their names and a message in the U.A.S visitor book, and we were also offered a chance to buy some U.A.S pins.
