U16 Girls’ Hockey v Down High

Report by Hannah Jordan (captain). With a newly formed team, and first match of the season, the girls played really well, but were unfortunate to finish with a 2-1 defeat. With Down High receiving a goal just before the half time whistle, we knew that we would have to come back in the second half stronger than ever. Throughout the next half, we had certainly improved our game, as a few position switches at half time had a big impact on our play. Unfortunately, the Down players got a very lucky goal which brought the score to 2-0. Now we really had to play our very best. With time running out, we got awarded a penalty corner in the last minute. With pressure mounting on the Banbridge attacking players, Hannah Jordan hit the ball out, which then was passed from Caitlyn Lyness to Isabella Innocenzi, and finally to Holly Hanna, who scored on the rebound. As the final whistle blew, we were disappointed to have lost the match, but certainly happy that we bagged a goal in the last minute. I would like to say a special thank you to Sheree for umpiring, and Dr Dobson for preparing and training us for the match.
