Banbridge Academy is celebrating the outstanding achievements of five pupils who represented Northern Ireland in hockey at this year’s UK School Games.

The UK School Games is a major multi-sport event which brings together some of the most talented young athletes from across the UK. The competition provides a high-performance environment for school-aged athletes, with participants representing their home nations and competing across a wide range of sports. For those selected, it is an opportunity to compete at an exceptionally high level and experience the atmosphere of a major sporting event.

Among the athletes representing Northern Ireland were Alyssa, Brianna, Ruby and Katie, who were selected for the girls’ hockey team. The team produced a fantastic series of performances throughout the competition, ultimately finishing in first place and taking home the gold medal.

Charlie also represented Northern Ireland, competing as part of the boys’ hockey team. The boys enjoyed an equally impressive tournament, battling their way to second place and a silver medal.

The scale of the UK School Games makes these achievements particularly special. The pupils were competing alongside talented young athletes from across the UK, making the experience not only a fantastic sporting achievement but also an invaluable opportunity to develop their skills, confidence and experience at an elite level.

Banbridge Academy was also represented by staff member Scott Dale, who attended the Games as part of the boys’ hockey coaching staff, supporting the team throughout the competition.

The success of the hockey teams is a fantastic reflection of the dedication, commitment and teamwork of everyone involved. Banbridge Academy is extremely proud of Alyssa, Brianna, Ruby, Katie and Charlie for representing their school and Northern Ireland with such distinction.
