Banbridge Academy Celebrates Prestigious Shortlisting at Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards

Banbridge Academy proudly celebrated an outstanding achievement as both students and staff attended the recent Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards, marking a memorable evening of recognition for the school’s thriving sporting community.

The Academy was exceptionally well represented, with five different teams shortlisted across three highly competitive categories — a testament to the talent, dedication, and commitment shown throughout the year. The categories in which Banbridge Academy earned recognition included:

  • School Team of the Year – Minor Girls’ Swim Team
  • Young Team of the Year – U14 Girls’ Hockey, 1st XI Girls’ Hockey and 1st XI Boys’ Hockey
  • School Sporting Achievement of the Year – Archery Team

Having such a strong presence at what Belfast Telegraph Head of Sport Paul Ferguson described as the “the Oscars of Northern Ireland Sport”, highlights the continued growth and success of sport within the school. Across multiple disciplines, Banbridge Academy teams have consistently demonstrated not only skill and determination, but also sportsmanship and teamwork at the highest level.

Students were accompanied by members of staff who have played a vital role in supporting and developing these teams. Coaches and teachers have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that pupils are given the opportunities, guidance, and encouragement needed to succeed both on and off the field.

While the evening did not result in a win for Banbridge Academy, the significance of being shortlisted cannot be overstated. The Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards attract entries from some of the strongest schools and clubs across the region, making selection alone a remarkable and highly respected accomplishment.

For the students involved, the experience of attending the awards ceremony was both inspiring and rewarding. It provided an opportunity to celebrate their achievements, meet other talented athletes, and reflect on the progress they have made together as teams.

Speaking about the event, members of staff expressed immense pride in all those involved. Being recognised at such a level reinforces the hard work, resilience, and passion that define Banbridge Academy sport.

The evening served not as an endpoint, but as motivation for the future. With such a strong foundation already in place, the Academy looks forward to building on this success and continuing to compete at the highest standards.

To be shortlisted alongside the very best is, in itself, a huge achievement — and one that the entire Banbridge Academy community can celebrate with pride.
