In Banbridge Academy we offer the The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award to Year 13 students.  Students can undertake the Direct Entry Gold Award; this means that they need not have completed their Bronze or Silver Awards. 

The Gold Award comprises of 5 sections: –

·         Physical

·         Skills

·         Volunteering

·         Residential

·         Expedition

Expedition.

In school we train and organise the Expedition section under the License of the Education Authority.

We meet as a group on Friday afternoons to learn skills such as; Camp craft, Navigation, Cooking outdoors, First Aid and Route planning.  Following classroom based training we then complete several Practice Expeditions in the Mourne mountains, before our qualifying Expedition at the end of June, usually in Wicklow.  Get involved!
