Academy Athletes enjoy successful day at Ulster Athletics Championships

Banbridge Academy’s athletes had a successful day at the Ulster Schools Athletics Championships on Sat 20th May at the Antrim stadium.

The best two performances of the day were from Ciara Patton and Emma O’Neill who both placed 5th in their competitions. Emma jumped a new personal best in the senior girls Triple Jump to place so well and Ciara also jumped brilliantly in the Intermediate girls High Jump competition and narrowly missed the medal places. Both girls have another year in their respective categories so hopefully the future is bright.

On the Friday night before the main championship some of the distance races were held and senior boy Kian Moran ran brilliantly in the 5000m to place 7th in a very competitive field. Kian also has another year in his category.

In the Junior Girls 800m race Beth Morrow also ran strongly to finish 8th in a tight finish and Grace Hamilton finished 4th in her heat to narrowly miss out on the final of the 300m Intermediate girls’ race.

While there were no medals this year all the Academy athletes performed well in the most prestigious Ulster schools competition in the athletics season and should be justifiably proud of their efforts.
