BA Pupil Arkwright Engineering Scholarship
Banbridge Academy pupil Lucy Hodgen has been chosen for a Sponsored Arkwright Scholarship, funded by Royal Air Force. Over half of RAF personnel work in engineering, on equipment from aircraft engine components, hydraulics & avionics to radar, communications systems, flying helmets, stealth and space technology. The RAF provides extensive opportunities for training & qualifications within engineering, both on the ground and in the air.
On the 23rd October Lucy had the exciting opportunity to attend a welcoming and networking event in Rugby, England, for all scholarship recipients sponsored by the Royal Air Force (RAF). The event was a fantastic introduction to the Arkwright community and provided valuable insights into the scholarship journey and what benefits the scholarship has into the future. Attendees heard from a panel of past scholars who shared their experiences and the impact the scholarship had on their careers. Another panel of RAF personnel offered a closer look at the many pathways and opportunities within the RAF, highlighting the importance of engineering and technical skills in their work. Lucy also participated in teamwork challenges alongside other scholars, which helped to develop problem-solving skills and foster new connections within the group. The day wrapped up with a Q&A session where attendees could ask questions about the RAF, gaining further insight into potential career paths and how the RAF supports innovation in engineering. This event was both inspiring and informative, setting a positive tone for the journey ahead as an Arkwright Scholar.
