Banbridge Academy were delighted to present a cheque for £2000 to Kerry Anderson, Head of Fundraising at Air Ambulance Northern Ireland. The money was collected from the annual Christmas Carol Service and a school non – uniform day.

Mark Miskelly, mathematics teacher in the school is also taking on a personal challenge to raise money for this life saving service following. Family accident.

In February 2024 his 83-year-old aunt was hit by a bus while crossing the road, the NI Air Ambulance responded to the incident, their care and attention undoubtedly saved her life. His Aunt enjoyed walking everywhere, unfortunately as a result of the accident she lost her left leg below the knee but is now able to get around with the use of a prosthetic. Her strength, faith and determination are an inspiration and Mark, and his two brothers wanted to take on a challenge to raise funds for the NI Air Ambulance on his aunt’s behalf.  On June 20th they are participating in the “Chase the Sun” event which begins in Belfast at sunrise with the objective to cycle to Enniscrone in Sligo, 210 miles away, before sunset.  The school are planning to hold an event for the Year 8 pupils to participate in and raise some more funds for the NI Air Ambulance.

The Class of 2026 also played their part in adding to the fundraising efforts by hosting a charity football match between the boys in the year group. A fantastic show of camaraderie as they come to the end of their time at school. Drew Frazer, Year 14, was at the helm and organised a social media presence and fundraising link for the boys. They add another £800 to the total.

So far this year pupils and staff at Banbridge Academy have fundraised £2800 for the Air Ambulance with more to come! Well done to all involved!
