BA Wildcard in the Regional Springboard FutureChef Competition

Springboard’s FutureChef is a schools-based programme across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland that supports the development of key life skills whilst inspiring young people to pursue an exciting career within the world of hospitality. The aim is to support students to build industry based culinary skills and knowledge, as well as connecting teachers and students with industry professionals. The Springboard FutureChef competition is now the biggest school culinary competition in the UK.

Beth Morrow in Year 11 at Banbridge Academy took part in her local heat at Newry College and was unfortunate not to place in a field of high competition. However, after all local heats were completed across NI, the judges then decided to place a wildcard into the competition at regional level due to the high standard of culinary skills on offer. To choose between such a close competition, they decided to award the wild card to the next highest marks, Beth.  In her local heat Beth prepared a two-course meal, including pan-fried gnocchi.

Beth will now take part in a mentoring programme with a professional Head Chef, Ciaran Sansome, from the Seagoe Hotel and prepare her next 2 course competition meal.  She will then cook this in the Titanic Kitchens for a series of judges including celebrity guests.

We wish Beth the best of luck with the next stages of the competition on the 7th February 2024.
