Charlie Cosgrave – A Boxing Journey

Banbridge Academy pupil, Charlie Cosgrove, started boxing at 4 years old when his father took him along to his gym. Once old enough (aged 7) he joined Banbridge Boxing Club and began training twice a week as well as sparring with boxers from other Clubs.

At the age of 11 he was old enough to compete. Training stepped up to 6 days a week to prepare for competitions.  Charlie has boxed in 6 competitions since November 2025, winning them all. These include: The Louth Championships; Antrim 6s Championships; Armagh Down Championships; Ulster Championships; Antrim National Qualifier Championships; and All Ireland Schoolboy Championships.

Charlie had two fights to qualify for the All-Ireland Championships, winning both by first round stoppage.  The All-Ireland Schoolboy Championships were held in The National Stadium in Dublin. The quarter-final, on Easter Monday, against a boxer from Meath secured a win by unanimous decision. The semi- final against a boxer from Connacht produced another win by unanimous decision. The final was held on Friday 10 April against a boxer from Munster.  The judges again awarded Charlie the win by unanimous decision awarding him the Boy1 40kg Irish Title.
