Education Minister Mr Paul Givan MLA visits Banbridge Academy

Banbridge Academy were delighted to host the Education Minister, Mr Paul Givan MLA, to the school on Thursday 6 June 2024.  On arrival, the Minister was welcomed by the Principal, Mr Robin McLoughlin OBE, and the Head Girl, Ellie Robinson and Head Boy, Ryan Hanna.

The Minister discussed a range of issues including the flourishing extra and co-curricular life of the school and the exemplary curricular offer for the students of the Academy.  Minister Givan viewed the recent rollout of C2k / EdIS devices enhancing the digital learning experiences for students by providing state-of-the-art devices and connectivity.  During his tour the Minister engaged with teachers and students emphasising the importance of technology in modern education and future career pathways for young people.

The Academy was also hosting the Best Rugby Tournament, named after the legendary rugby duo – Rory and Simon Best.  Mrs Lornette McAlister, Principal of Poyntzpass Primary School and member of the Board of Governors of Banbridge Academy, thanked the Minister for coming to support the tournament.  Poyntzpass Primary School invite a wide range of Primary Schools to participate in the Best Rugby Tournament as an accolade to their former students.  Minister Givan remarked that events like this inspire our young people to strive for excellence both on and off the field as well as teaching resilience and camaraderie.

The Minister’s visit underscored Northern Ireland’s commitment to quality education and holistic development. As he departed, he expressed optimism for the future, commenting that our schools are shaping tomorrow’s leaders, and that he was proud to witness their progress.
