N.I. Tetrathlon Team – Windsor Horse Show

Banbridge Academy pupils, Emma Stewart and Harry Purdy (Year 10), were selected for the N.I. Tetrathlon Team and recently competed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The Tetrathlon is a 4-phase event consisting of:

Shooting – using an air pistol 7 metres back from a turning target
Swimming – as many lengths as possible in 3 minutes
Running – 1500 metres in the quickest time
Cross Country – riding an unfamiliar pony over 12 show jumps – made all the more difficult as participants only get to sit on the pony for 20 minutes the night before the competition.

Harry and Emma competed against 28 other competitors with Emma finishing 4th individually on the day and Harry was placing 6th. An amazing achievement and experience for both pupils. Their individual successes helped the N.I. Team to an overall 2nd place, the first time in over 8 years they have been in the top 3. Well done to Emma, Harry and the team.
