We are delighted to announce that Banbridge Academy has been selected as one of The Lyric Theatre Belfast’s Affiliated Schools for the academic year 2024/25.

Banbridge Academy has a strong history of producing excellent drama productions, most recently enthralling audiences with their unique interpretation of The Wizard of Oz.  Pupils who have participated in previous productions often use their skills in their professional lives as journalists, barristers, performers and theatre practitioners and a host of other careers.

As an affiliate school the Academy will benefit from the opportunity to participate in workshops with industry professionals, access to live theatre performances and resources to support live theatre analysis for examination classes; the opportunities are endless. The Lyric’s affiliation scheme provides invaluable opportunities which help provide a deeper insight to the live theatre and allows pupils to gain an insight into the theatrical process from page to stage.

The object of the Affiliation Scheme is to strengthen relationships with schools across Northern Ireland by developing communication links and to help develop drama within affiliated schools (boost key skills like confidence & communication skills, team work etc.)

Affiliation with the Lyric will provide the Drama Department with Professional Development opportunities, free tours of the theatre for pupils, in addition to Careers advice for those young people interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries.
