Banbridge Academy Magazine 2022-2023: Girls Hockey Article

Banbridge Academy Girls hockey is renowned through school girl hockey for its passion and excellence for the sport. In recent years the girls have achieved above and beyond what has gone before in the history of the school.. Individually there have been representatives from U16 all the way through to Irish u21. The 1st XI have had a decade of Superleague and Schools cup success of getting to semi finals, finals and becoming Schools Cup champions in 2017 and 2019. They have also gone one to be a force to be reckoned with at Irish level with winning the Kate Russell Irish schools final in 2017 and coming home with a silver medal in 2019. Another measure of success is having a total of 4 senior teams that train and play weekly, with nearly 70 senior players attending.

Our juniors show the future is bright with many players involved with the Ulster Hockey TDP programme which acts as a development pathway to underage Ulster squads. The junior cup runs of recent years have been successful as well as reaching the last 8 of the Junior Ulster Hockey Cup most years. They went on to win it in 2015. Like our seniors, junior participation rate is high with 6 junior teams and many many more players coming along and enjoying training each week.
