Banbridge Academy Medical Society Concludes Year with Inspiring Guest Visit
Banbridge Academy Medical Society marked the conclusion of a highly successful and engaging year by welcoming two distinguished medical professionals, Dr Ivor Cairns and Dr Susan Yarr, to its final meeting. The event provided pupils with a unique and enriching opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the realities of medical careers, drawing on the extensive experience of both guests.
The visit carried special significance this year due to Dr Cairns’ current role as High Sheriff of County Down. His appointment to this prestigious position added an extra layer of interest to the event, offering students a glimpse into the wider civic responsibilities and leadership opportunities that can accompany a distinguished professional career. Dr Cairns spoke about the importance of service, both within medicine and in the broader community, inspiring pupils to consider how they might contribute beyond their chosen professions.
Throughout the session, students asked a wide range of thoughtful questions, covering topics such as medical school applications, work-life balance, technological advancements, and the emotional aspects of patient care. The discussion was not only informative but also deeply motivating, reinforcing the Medical Society’s aim of supporting pupils who are considering careers in healthcare.
The Banbridge Academy Medical Society expressed its sincere gratitude to both guests for their time and generosity in sharing their expertise. Their contributions helped to bring the year’s programme to a fitting and memorable close, reinforcing the Society’s commitment to fostering curiosity, ambition, and a passion for medicine among its members.
