The Wizard of Oz a sell out at the Academy

The Academy’s professional and hugely ambitious production of The Wizard of Oz was thoroughly enjoyed by the entire school community.  Approximately 300 pupils were involved in this massive endeavour, it was no surprise that tickets for all 4 performances quickly sold out and audiences showed their appreciation with a spontaneous standing ovation.  The show was an explosion of colour, sound and light with sets designed and painted by pupils, past pupils, teachers and friends of the school.  The Academy has been developing several extremely successful dance teams in recent years under the direction of Mrs Ruth Cobb, herself a former pupil.  In addition to the multitude of dance teams, the school was delighted that a large number of senior boys joined their ranks for the production –  the performances did not disappoint.  Music and Drama have always been key extra-curricular pursuits at the Academy and this amazing show enabled many pupils to showcase their extraordinary performance skills.

To be successful in the modern workplace our young people need to demonstrate good communication and leadership skills, have the ability to work as part of an effective team and the resilience to see a project through to completion.  No other whole school venture sees pupils from years 8 -14 work together to develop essential life skills in such a fun and inclusive environment quite like a school musical.
